Felting Frenzy!

Well here is some more knitting 4 Eileen Totes. Ravelry link. 2 are made with Noro Kureyon and 2 with wisdom poems--these were combined with various scrap wools. One is mine--one gifted to my Mom--and the other 2 gifted to 2 of my daughters. My oldest daughter requested the yarn to make her own. So all had a Merry Christmas. Happy knitting.

Merry Christmas to one and all and Happy Holidays to those who don't celebrate Christmas. We did it--put up a tree--was too sick last year. So grateful for healthy holidays this year. Did not do any other decorating d/t fatigue. Am having the small family for Christmas today (my hubby's) Going to the large family for Christmas tomorrow (mine) Not cooking, but planning a great day. Snow at the Ponderosa

My Hubby, many years ago, put a sign in our front yard. It says--Tyjeski's Polish Ponderosa. So here is the snow we got in the last 2 days. These pics were taken this morning pre plowing and we have gotten more since then.

I know that it has been a long, long time since I posted. I remain in remission which is a good thing. Hope to show you some knitting soon. Even though I have not posted--I do read your blogs. Happy knitting to all.

Make Some Lemonade

Hi all--I have been trying to wait until I am not so tired to write this--but I don't think that day will be here for a while--so here goes. In case I haven't told you all--the lung cancer is in remission. That is a good thing. The MRI of the brain did not show any signs of cancer, but since small cell lung cancer almost always metastisis to the brain--we are going to start a course of preventative radiation to the brain. That will start today. It will be generalized--milder than if treating actual cancer--and only 15 sessions. Continued prayers will be appreciated. I guess that is why I am writing this today--because I know from past experience that the radiation will probably wipe me out. I figure the preventative radiation will be better than being told in a year or so that I have brain cancer--so I am going ahead with it.

Well--after the remission was announced and my blood counts were normalized I figured I could hug and shake hands with my friends. Now we all know that handwashing is the single most important means of preventing infection. So that was a big mistake on my part. I may be getting better--but my lungs are not yet healed. Within 2 weeks of shaking hands and hugging I caught a really bad cold--had it over Easter weekend. By April 29 I was in the hospital with a really bad case of pnuemonia. Was there till May 3. Came home on oxygen, inhalers, antiobiotics, prednisone--only 4 more days of the steroids--woohoo. I do not like that drug--but won't complain as I am breathing pretty well.

Lots of people tell me I look great--I work hard at that. But I don't want anyone to think this was a picnic. Cancer Treatment is very difficult. But I have a God who has given me the grace and the dignity to handle it well. I have been able to do it without whining--and that is really good for me. I have had the support of friends and family--and you know who you are. A wonderful husband--couldn't ask for a better one. And we are beating this thing. Happy knitting to all!!

Good News

Hi All--got good news from my radiologist today--I am cancer free. Now if I could get over this cold and quit coughing--LOL. He is going to schedule an MRI of the brain to check for mets. If there are mets of course they would be treated. If not he will do a preventative mild radiation to the brain. It is time to celebrate here. Love ya all and thx for all your thoughts and prayers. Well--I learned something new a coupla weeks ago. Fair Isle, Stranded knitting--and it is so so easy. I am already making my second pillow and hope to do some hats soon. The pattern is called October Fair Isle Pillow (Ravelry Link) from KateJacksonKnits. She is a designer on ravelry and owns my favorite LYS in Chardon, Ohio called Knitting on the Square. She is also published--but can't think of where right now. I know that Vogue knitting has published her, but not sure who else. KotS is the best little yarn shop I know where you can go and knit, knit, knit. I have made great friends there. And my Mom and daughter love to go also.

I knit about 20 Chemo hats and donated them to the Look Good Feel Better program for women that is sponsored by the American Cancer Society.The pattern can be found on this page by scrolling down. It is called the Saturday Afternoon Hat--and if you have ever made hats, you know they go pretty quickly. I made the 20 hats in 2 weeks.

Dishcloth Swap

I participated in a dish cloth swap on Ravelry--I love Ravelry! First swap I have ever done and it was great fun to get to know someone else just a little bit. Thank you Kay for all the goodies. two dishcloths, tea, chocolates, a little purse, stitch markers, and an Atlanta key chain. The cloths are a paw print and a shamrock. Happy knitting to all.

Child's Fingerless Mitts

Just thought I would toss this little pair of fingerless mitts in as part of my knitting. I modified the pattern for Maine Morning Mitts found in The Knitter's Book of Yarn. I used a double knit yarn and size #4 needles. Knitted 3" to the thumb gussett and a total of 6" for the length of the mitt. Otherwise I followed the pattern Ravelry Link Happy knitting to all.

The little bag is made from a pattern called The Gelato Bag by Fiber Trends. It is made from Paton's SWS Color Natural Denim. The striping is very subtle, but it is there. Ravelry Link

The sweater is called Mandarin Jacket from the book Knitting Simple Jackets. It is made from Cascade Ecological Wool color #9451 a green heather. Ravelry Link.

So between not feeling too well there is knitting getting done. I also knitted a few things I gifted before taking pics, alas.

My chemo was postponed till next week d/t low blood counts, but things are looking good. Happy knitting to all.

I know, I know--it has been way too long since I updated. So--here goes. December was not a good month. I got radiation twice a day for 3 1/2 weeks--Nov and Dec. Went to the hospital twice with really low blood counts and dehydration. One was a 4 day stay and one was a 1 day stay. Radiation is done and I am doing much better now. I have only 2 rounds of chemo left to do. For now, things are looking good--but will not know for sure how effective everything is until after the chemo is done and they do another CT Scan. Please keep up all the thoughts and prayers. They continue to work. And thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers. BTW--the holidays were great!

We are getting way too much snow--right now we have about 2 feet on the ground with tons more expected by the end of the week. And it is cold, cold, cold. And I am getting some knitting done--will post about it later. Some were gifted before I took pics. Happy knitting.

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday I became very weak and tired--and of course attributed it to chemo and radiation--which it was--but I should have been a little more diligent and been checked out sooner. On Sat. Nov 28 I took an ambulance ride to the ER and was admitted with all sorts of critically low blood levels. I received 4 units of blood and 5 units of platelets and many other meds and was in there until Wed Dec 2. I am home now and feeling a tad better--actually a lot better, but of course not 100%. I will resume radiation on Monday Dec 7 and will probably also resume chemo some time next week--that depends on my blood work. I am staying away from all but family right now due to the really low immune system and not wanting to catch anything. Please keep up all the prayers as they are continuing to work and they are really appreciated more than you know--thank you all so much. Will update as I can. The treatment BTW is working!!

I know that I have told you all that I would keep you updated as I could. I do have good days and some not so good days--but no super super bad days as of yet. I got my second round of chemo this week which finished up on Wed. and will continue to get that 3 days in a row every 3 weeks for 4 more rounds.. I also started radiation this past Monday and will receive that 2x daily for 3 1/2 weeks.

I did get a good report from the radiation oncologist as he reported to us that the tumor has already begun to shrink, which is very good news this early in the treatment.

Last week I felt pretty yucky--white blood count was low and received daily shots of leukine for that. Then I slept the whole weekend away and when labs were drawn on this past Monday it was found that I was anemic with a hgb. of 9.8--since my insurance pays for procrit I was give a dose of that--and felt great by that evening--it works well and fast.

Of course I no longer have hair--and darling hubby took me today and we purchased a cranial prosthesis aka a wig. Insurance will pay for that. It is a little lighter than my real color, and I have a feeling that when my real hair comes back it may get dyed to this color as I like it very much.

All in all for the most part I am holding up pretty well--Our God is taking good care of Dave and I.

Dave also is doing well and is such a great support to myself and I don't know what I would do without him.

I truly hope that I remembered to tell you all everything that I wanted to--if not until next time.

Lung Cancer Treatment

As many of you know we are about to start a journey into uncharted territory. I had a medport placed last Wed. and will be receiving my first chemo treatment on Monday Oct 26. I will receiving chemo 3 days in a row every three weeks for 6 sessions.. Some time during the course of chemo they will be doing radation 5 days a week for 5 to 7 weeks. You will only be receiving these updates when I feel good enough to write them--but I will do my best to keep you all posted. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers you have been sending up for us. Thank you so much--much love to you all.. We are keeping our positive attitude and trusting in God and know that all will be well.

Way to go Isaac. This is the third year my 17 year old grandson has been deer hunting and he bagged his first deer yesterday morning--with the first shot--a bow and arrow no less--dropped it dead. I am so proud of him--and it is split open because he field dressed it himself--never having seen it done--all learned from you tube. You can go to my daughter's blog to see a better story on this. When you are taking pics of your self in the mirror in the bathroom you can't necessarily expect them to look great--but I think the shawl looks wonderful. I love the size of it--and the color is so striking--one of the colors that look the best on me. I am sure I will get a lot of use out of this shawl that I won in a contest on Grace's Blog "Lovin' Comfort Knits".

Grace has a wonderful blog. She writes about life and knitting. Joy and Sorrow, Sickness and Health, just life in general. She is a very regular poster--a downfall for me right now--but such is life. Why No Blogging?

This is just to show you that there has been some knitting going on. There are very good reasons for mu total lack of blogging

I want you to know that I will not be closing my blog--as I wish to continue following all those I have been following. I feel I have developed a friendship and bond with all of my pretend friends--thank you so much for that.

I have been really ill--diagnosed with SIADH--which I do not really understand it--it has to do with ineffective anti diuretic hormone and my sodium dropped very very low and I was unable to function for 7 days.. I then spent 7 more days in the critical care unit to treat and find they cause.. And the cause was found. They found a lesion on my lower right lung--which is what they feel triggered the SIADH. It was biopsied and it is a small cell cancer. for now that is all we know. I will see an oncologist on Oct 12--have more testing to determine stage etc and then they will decide on treatment. I do know it is not operable.

I am not posting this for sympathy--but for lots and lots of prayers please--cuz I know they do work. I will do my best to keep you all posted. I am very accepting of my current status and plan to enjoy every day that I do feel well to the fullest and to do the best I can when I do not feel well. Please pray also for my 3 daughter's, my mom, and especially my special hubby who will bear the brunt of this. He is a great guy. That is all for now--and happy knitting.

Crafty Corner and a Contest

Run on over to Knitty Sue's for a great contest.

Here is my knitting corner. It is at the end of my couch on the coffee table and on the floor beside the couch. On the coffee table you will find much. A container with needles--7" wooden needles--dpn's--some circular needles. A smaller container with notions--row counters, stitch holders, crochet hooks, darning needles, scissors, tape measurer, and God only knows what else--pens index cards etc. Some dishcloth cotton for that instant gratification knitting. A finished scarf--a coupla finished dishcloths. Beside the couch are project bags with wips--and some with needles and crochet hooks--and some with sock yarn. In the space under the coffee table are knitting books and knitting magazines. Also lots and lots of patterns on the top of the coffee table--and a crossword puzzle book for when I need a diversion. Hi everyone--it isn't that I have lost interest in blogging--life has just been very very busy this year. with weddings, graduations, showers, open houses, doctors, etc. What more can I say. DH is going the 22 of this month for testing of his heart function to see if he is a candidate for an implanted defibrillator and pace maker--let's all keep our fingers crossed. I had 2 grandkids graduate high school this year--so hard to believe. Where has the time gone. And DH's grandson is getting married the 26th of this month. Going to try to post more often, but with all that is going on--no promises.

I have made about 16 of the necklaces in the pic above. They are truly instant gratification knitting and are lots of fun. They can be found in the 101 Designers One Skein Wonders book. Ravelry link.

The afghan is a wedding gift for Dave's grandson and the bride to be. Ravelry link I made it with leftover acrylic yarns. Please don't moan--it will get a lot of use and many washings I am sure--so acrylic is the way to go.

Yep it is the big six-o. Never thought I would live this long. And I am so grateful to be here. Even with all its aches and pains--my life is so full. Three lovely daughters--and their spouses--and they have graced me with 10 grandchildren ages 19 months to 18 years--2 graduated highschool this year. Wow! I still have my Mom and am married to a wonderfu man who spoils me rotten. How good does it get?

Wedding Shower Gifts

I know I know--long time no blog. I have been busy with life and such and some shower gift knitting. I am making dishcloths to put in a basket with some kitchen supplies and a small photo album of the groom growing up. I will take a pic of the basket when all is done--and the album.

First off is the Squidge Cloth made on size #7 needles with Peaches&Creme Cotton in the Winterberries colorway. As a matter of fact all the dishcloths are made on Szie #7 needles so I will not mention the needle size again. The pattern can be found here.

Next is the Darrell Waltrip dishcloth made with Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Culinary Colors [The color # or name is not mentioned on the ballband:)] Ther pattern can be found here.

Next up are a coupla Grandma's Favorites. One is made from Lion Brand Cotton in the colorway Sagebrush and the other is made from Lily Sugar'nCream in the colorway Summer Splash. The pattern can be found here.

Fourth are a coupla Ballbands. One is made from Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Color white and Peaches&Creme baby green and the other is made from Fantasy Naturale Color # 8020 and #9706. The pattern can be found here.

They Grow Up Too Quickly

Just a little eye candy for ya. There she is in all her glory. She picked the dress herself and it is gorgeous. Oh to be so young and skinny. But I am happy with where I am in life, and to have such a beautiful grandaughter. You will see above--a back view of the dress, a pic of her with her date, and a pic of her with her mom and dad.

They had great weather, low eighties at 6:30 pm and no rain. How good does it get.

Prom and Evening Bag

My grandaughter's senior prom is tonight. And I knitted her this lovely evening bag out of Noro Daria Color #24. The pattern was given to me and I don't know where to tell you to get it. Daria is not really a yarn, but rather a shiny cord. It was pretty easy to knit with and this was a quick knit. The pattern does not call for a closure, but I crocheted a loop and attached a pretty little button. I really hope that she likes it. How did I develop an attitude of gratitude. I have not always been a grateful person. When I was 29 years old my hubby left for another woman and I was the most unhappy and ungrateful person you could possibly know. I had 4 children ages 5 to 9 whom I left with him as I had no job and no skills and was absolutely terrified. My God was good and let me have them back a year later. I became a chronic alcoholic--a hopeless drunk--that was my coping skill. By the grace of God I have been sober a little over 24 years and live a happy productive life today. There has been a lot of growing in those years, and I am not a perfect person--in fact far from it--but I have a true appreciation for the gift of life and try to maintain a grateful attitude no matter what is going on around me.

Now that I have told you all more about myself than I ever thought I would--you all have a great day. And thank you Gayle for affording me the opportunity to share.

She Is Done!!

And it is about time! I started her Dec. 30, 08 and just finished her today. She still needs some blocking, but all in all I think that she looks pretty good. Here is a ravelry link for the details.

This was a lot of lot of knitting--but was great TV knitting in the winter months. After a while I did get very bored with it and kept putting it down to make smaller things--which is why it took so long. There are lots of mistakes--it has been a long time since I have made a full sized wearable--but I plan to wear it a lot once the weather once again turns cooler.

Scarf Finished

Well, I finally finished the gathered scarf. Not a lot of time for knitting lately, but this was a fun project. I made it out of Berrocco Comfort Sock Yarn on size #4 and #8 needles. I cast on 60 stitches instead of 48 and decreased to 30 for the garter stitch rows. I used the whole skein and the scarf is 5" by 57". I like to make scarves 3" or more longer, but did not want to use a new skein for 24 more rows. I am pleased with the results. Happy Knitting.

A Little Crocheting

The owner of my favorite LYS Knitting on the Square in Chardon, Ohio is having a baby in June. She is such a gracious owner and has a very inviting shop with couches, chairs and lets us sit and knit without fees. So I made her the above for her baby.

The off white loopstitch sweater and hat are from a book called Leisure Arts #4, Baby Talk and is made with Cascade Heritage Sock yarn. The off white loopstitch booties are made with the same yarn. The blue loopstitch booties are made with Regia Sock yarn--ballband went with the gift. The loopstitch booty pattern is from a book called Spinnerin #201, Wee Moderns. Both books are vintage and out of print.

Another Nurse Day

Just another one of the many nurses I have in my collection. I just thought it would be fun to share these with you. This nurse was handpainted just for me by a very special friend who passed away on Dec 19 of last year. He gifted it to me in 1995 and signed it on the bottom. And just how special is that. What do you collect. There will be many more to follow.

And Finally Some Knitting

First up is a Gathered Scarf. I am making this out of Berrocco Comfort Sock Yarn Color #1813. It is making a really nice scarf but don't think I would make socks out of it.

Next is a pair of socks made from Bearfoot Mountain Colors handpainted yarns, color Gray Wolf. I absolutely love this sock yarn--so soft and wonderful to work with--worth every penny. I used the 56 stitch 56 row sock pattern. My mods-- 40 rows 1x1 ribbing followed by 10 rows st st. I then followed the pattern for the heel flap, heel turn, and gusset. I did 48 rows of st st for the foot and followed the pattern for the toe. These fit my size 6 to 6 1/2 foot. I used a size one 40" circular needle and the magic loop method. Since I have learned magic loop, I don't think I will ever go back to DPN's.

Next are my 2 Multidirectional Scarves.
the green one is made from Plymouth Boku color #3 and the last one is made from Lion Wool color Autumn Sunset. The Lion Wool one was my practice scarf and I used the original ending which is not very symmetrical. On the Plymout Boku one I used the alternate ending which I like much better. This was an instant gratification knit--very fast and easy!! I will be making it again.

I have less than 100 rows to knit on the second sleeve of my Einstein Coat--then the collar, block, and buttons. It has been hibernating a lot. Have also started another pair of socks,

More Nurses

I know, I know, long time no blog! Life has been very busy and, although I check my blogs that I read daily, and occasionally comment--and spend about 15 minutes daily raveling, I have not taken the time to post.

These are my Nurse Ratchets from my nurse collection. I took a pic of the back of the one so you could see that they all hold enema bags. Aren't they fun. I try not to be a Nurse Ratchet. Even though I thought the title Nurse Ratchet has been around since time began--it hasn't. Nurse Ratchet was in One Flew Over the Cockoo Nest starring Jack Nicholson. I believe that was sometime in the 70's--so it has been a while. Great movie. Knitting to come. Happy Knitting.

A Noro Scarf

This scarf was made from Noro Silk Garden--2 skeins each of color #264 & #267. I didn't really like the thick and thin texture of the yarn and it is not as soft as I like--but the coloring is amazing. The scarf is made from the directions on Brooklyntweed's Blog (aka Jared Flood) All in all the scarf is very pretty. Happy Knitting

40 years ago today, at 6:59 am this beautiful bouncing baby came into the world. My firstborn. The love of my life. And she grew. I am so pround of my oldest, not that I'm not proud of the others. There is something special about the firstborn. I learned on her, poor thing. She is a beautiful young woman. Has homeschooled her children, and has worked so very hard to having a loving marriage. She is the greatest daughter named Kelly I know.

What's Up?

Well I haven't been real active here. Had a minor surgery a coupla weeks ago and it isn't healing real well and is causing some pain I don't care for--but such is life--This Too Shall Pass.

So here is some instant gratification knitting. A tribble and a petal dishcloth--my favoite to knit--so fast and easy. Made with Lily Sugar'nCream color faded denim. Was almost done with this when I realized I was using a size 5 needles in stead of an 8--it is rather small--but this enabled the tribble from the same skein. Happy Knitting.

My Einstein

Well the Einstein Coat is definitely growing. It sure is a lot of knitting, but easy and mindless while watching tv. All there is left to do is the left front and the sleeves--then buttons and block of course.

Supposed to get another snowstorm on Tuesday--oh when will it end. It is better than ice. The dog doesn't really care for it. But it sure is pretty,

Prize and Let It Snow

Well, here it is--the prize that I won from the contest on Jane's blog. I love the book and the yarn and can't wait to use them both--but it will happen after I finish my Einstein Coat. I am not sure yet what I am going to make--but I plan to use the yarn with a pattern from the book.

And in the weather--Yikes!! We are now on our third major snowstorm this season. We are expecting at least another foot of snow. The last 2 major snowstorms dumped about 14" on us. That was each snowstorm. And we have had lots of 2-6" snow storms in between. Ah well, lots of time to knit. Not going anywhere, and very grateful I did not pick up at work today.

How Good Does It Get?

Well--Mom and I went knitting Friday at our favorite LYs--KotS. If you are ever in NE Ohio anywhere even near Chardon, the snow capital of Ohio, you really have to visit this shop. Everyone is so friendly and they have a great selection of yarn. Anyhow I purchased this Circular Solution for my circular needles. And here they are all hung up by size with all the kinks out never to be in there again. And only $19.95. And they can hang in my closet and not take up space and I will always know where they are. I also purchased a little yarn and the One Skein Wonders for Luxury Yarns. There are some great patterns in this book. Happy Knitting.

An Interview

I was reading Grace's blog, and my blog has been kind of boring lately so I allowed her to supply me with some blog fodder. I have allowed her to interview me. She is a really great knitter and makes the most beautiful shawls. She is also a kind and generous lady, and I love reading her blog.

So--here is the interview:

1. I know you live in Ohio, what do you find delightful about the area you live in?
Well--I live in a small farming community and it is quiet, peaceful. and really very pretty. We have a private lake on our property-and my kitchen sink overlooks it so it is always enjoyable to wash the dishes. Lots of wildlife--And in lovely N.E. Ohio you just never know what the weather is going to do.

2. What is your favorite knitting yarn and why? Right now it is Dream in Color Smooshy because it is so soft and smooshy. Not splitty and really a joy to knit with. That could change as I experiment with other yarns.

3. Are there any knitting techniques you would like to learn but haven't yet? I want to become proficient in lace knitting--and then make shawls like you, Grace. I plan to start this year with scarves and hopefully a shawl by the end of the year.

4. What is your favorite holiday and what makes it so special? Christmas, Christmas, Christmas--simply because it is the only time of the year I really get to see my whole brood all at the same time. There were 29 of us at my house this year and it was great. Only 1 was missing--my grandaughter had to work. Family is what it is about to me. And of course also the reason for the season.

5. It's been very cold lately, everwhere, what is your favorite, chill chasing supper time recipe that is loved by all??? Why of course my homemade chicken noodle soup.

A FO For 2009

Well--here is my first finished object for 2009. A pair of 56 stitch 56 row socks from Chicknits. They are done in Dream In Color Smooshy--color--Go Go Grassy. Done on size #1 needles the magic loop way. My very first pair of socks done using the magic loop method. I cannot believe I have been using dpn needles for over 2 years now. I will not go back to dpn needles. The magic loop method is so much faster and so very easy and simple. Happy Knitting.

Great Chardon Visit

Yesterday My Mom and I went to Doogan's restaurant in Chardon, Oh to meet my new friend and her Mom for lunch. I was so excited for the 2 Mom's to meet as they are so much alike and so close in age. Both are widows. And they hit it right off. We had a great lunch. Then we went to KotS in Chardon, Oh, so I could spend some Christmas money on the yarn I wanted to buy to make the Einstein Coat. The link is a ravelry link so I apologize to any readers not on ravelry. If you are not on ravelry you can sign up for an invite here. It is really a great knit and crochet community.

So there is a pic of my friend, the 2 Moms and the einstein coat that I started.

I really love the yarn and the color I bought. The store sample that I tried on is made from this yarn but in a different color. At first I thought I wanted that color--but I really like the one I am using much more. It is being made from Araucania Nature Wool Chunky Multi Color #201. I love the fit and feel of this coat. I am making size Medium. The pattern is from Sally Melville's book The Knitting Experience: Book 1: The Knit Stitch. Hope to post a few Christmas pics soon, but today I am taking a break and knitting.

We have had a very busy holiday season. Monday we buried a very dear friend--so there has not been a lot of time to knit. I will work Thursday and Saturday.

Christmas Crunch Day #2

Hi all. Hope that you all had a Very Merry Christmas--Happy Hannaka--or whatever you all celebrate. Yesterday we had my hubby's family and my Mom and I cooked lunch and ate off of real dishes with real silverware. There were 8 of us.

Today--well my clan comes. There will be 30 of us--Oh my how the family has grown. I made a 20 lb. turkey and a 10 pound ham yesterday. Today is leftover turkey and ham sandwiches--on you guessed it--paper plates, with plastic silverware cups etc. I don't think I have enough real dishes for this many. Will be pretty casual and hectic today.

Yesterday was quiet and relaxing with no little ones running around. But I can't wait till everyone gets here. The little ones really make Christmas. I will have 10 grandkids and 3 great nephews and 1 great niece. All my kids and their spouses--my bro and his spouse--my 2 nephews and their spouses. My Mom and my Aunt. I am looking forward to a really nice day.

Thanks to Shelly at KotS and a little tutorial on youtube I am actually magic loop knitting socks. I have been knitting socks for a little over 2 years and cannot believe I have not tried this before--I thought it would be too hard. It is so easy and so much faster. If you haven't tried it you really ought to. It is great!! The sock is made with Dream in Color Smooshy--can't remember color at the moment and too busy to look. Will give the details on the sock when the pair is finished--probably sometime after Christmas.

Oh My, There Is Knitting

Yes, there is actual knitting going on amongst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. The socks are the 56 st. 56 row sock pattern with mods to suit me. These are made with Aussie Sock Yarn in the color faded valentine on size #2 DP needles.

Next is the Noro Scarf from Brooklyn Tweed. I made it to his specifications, however I used Berrocco Geode yarn in colors 3658 & 3645. It is 5" x 60". I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I used 2 skeins of each color.

Well back to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy Knitting.

Just some of my ornaments to get you in the Christmas spirit.
What's a tree without a nurse ornament when you are a nurse--gift from my hubby several years ago.
The green ornament is a ceramic ornament my Hubby's 42 year old daughter made him when she was a child.
The silver ornament is from my early childhood and hung on our tree every year when I was a kid--thx Mom.
The girl in the wreath has the year 1977 on the bottom and was a gift from my parents--of course in 1977.
And last but not least is one of my many Wendell August Forge ornaments gifted by my parents over the years.

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy

Well Lucy #6 is done and lined--she is the dark gray one with the plaid lining. My DH says that plaid is his favorite color. She is for my step daughter #1. The brown one I have posted before--but she is finally lined--with kitties--step dautghter #2 loves kitties. Hope they like them. If they don't, ah well, they are getting them anyhow.

I have seen lots of memes etc that I have wanted to do, but time constraints have not allowed that. I truly hope that everyone has a great holiday season and Happy Knitting.

A Coupla Finished Objects

The Socks are a modification of the 56 stitch 56 row socks from Chic Knits which can be found here. The yarn is Knit Picks Essential in Tucson Multi Colorway.

The afghan is finally finished in time for Joe Joe's second Christmas All my grandchildren have one of these-there fore this is the 10th one I have made. The yarn is Caron Perfect Match--the color is Country Basket Ombre. The border is Red Heart Supersaver in Country Blue. The pattern can be purchased here.

I still have one Lucy bag to finish--like ten more rows and the handles and felting. That will leave me 2 more Lucy Bags to line and Christmas knitting will be done. I would like to do more, but am calling it quits. Hope to knit a coupla sweaters for me after the new year. Happy Knitting.

On No Here's The Snow!!

And this is why I wouldn't want to be going to Knitting On The Square in Chardon, Oh today. One week later this is what we got up to today in the secondary snow belt--and yes this is Lake Effect Snow. For those of you who don't know what Lake Effect Snow is--it is when the winds blow across the not frozen waters of the Great Lakes (for us Lake Erie and sometimes from Lake Huron) and voila--snow is created. This is not the worst snow storm I have ever seen--but it sure is early in the year for this much snow. We have at least 7 or 8" total out there and are expecting more.

The awful part is I have to work today and get to drive on those awful roads--not to mention how much I hate cleaning off the car. We do have a huge pole barn--but it is filled with antique cars--tractors etc.

As far as knitting and crocheting goes--I am trying to finish my Grandson's afghan and am working on a pair of socks and a NovemberWrap. This is a ravelry Link--if you are not signed up go to ravelry.com and sign up for an invite. This is truly the best knitting community in the world.

This is a pic of my Mom last Friday when we went to Knitting On The Square in Chardon, Oh to knit with friends. Temps last Friday near 60 degress and it was a beautiful day. I love going there with my Mom and she loves it too. Chardon is the snow capital of Ohio. We are about 10 miles south of the primary snow belt--but we are in the secondary snow belt and sometimes we get hammered. So glad we went last Friday--and you will see why in my next post.

Lots of knitting and crocheting going on. I have finished 3 more Lucy Bags--only 2 are shown as one is a gift that I will post pics of after Christmas. Pattern can be purchased here or at your LYS. The Red one is mine--I have been lining them. The brown one is not yet lined as it is still wet, but I will post a pic when it is. I have now made 5 of them--4 are gifts. The pink and white crocheted grocery bag pattern can be obtained here. The Red lucy bag is made from Cascade 220 paints. The brown Lucy bag is Knitpicks Wool of the Andes--color amber heather--I love the way this felted. The crocheted pink and white mesh bag is made from Lily Sugar'nCream Color Strawberry--it is for my 6 year old grandaughter for Christmas. I had made her Mom one of these bags and she confiscated it for her stuffed animals and didn't want to give it up. Since my daughter uses it to take her lunch to work she lets Alli use it once a week. Therefore I made one for Alli.

Alligators

A Little Knitting

I have gotten a little knitting done this crazy busy summer. Finished another Lucy Bag--still have to line her. Am also working on a cabled felted bag that is done in strips. I have to make 3 1/2 more strips, finish the seaming and felt. We are going to Myrtle Beach later in the month and with my work schedule I doubt that it will be done before we go. So you can see the majority of it above preseamed, and a pic from the book the pattern is in. I can't wait to felt it. I think it will make a great project bag. We sepnt the weekend in Cook Forest Pa. I will post some more on that later. Happy Knitting.

Yep--I lined Lucy. I think that a lined bag is much nicer to use. I used to make a lot of my children's clothes when they were young, but that was a long, long time ago, and I haven't really tackled any sewing projects in years. But I am very pleased with the lining I did. Happy knitting.

Dogs On Thursday

The black and white puppy was our Smokey who passed on July 5, 2005. He was part Jack Russell. We really miss him. But he loved corn on the cob.

The brown and white puppy is our Jill, we call her our Jill Russell. She is 2 years old and we got her in March. And guess what she likes--you got it--corn on the cob!!

Meet Lucy

I bought the yarn and the pattern to make the Lucy Bag from my LYS this past winter. Finally Started her in May and finished her July 26. Very boring, simple knit and I love the finished product--plan to line her and use her this winter. I am making another one as we speak, along with a cabled felted purse and a pair of socks which are all on the needles. Made with 3 skeins of Lamb's Pride wool mohair blend by Brown Sheep Company in brown heather. Love the way it felted and would use it again for felting.

Hubby is doing great right now and we are making plans for our fall vacation after having to cancel the summer one. Knitting will be going along and hope to once again visit the Knitting Up A Storm yarn shop in N. Myrtle Beach while we are gone. Happy Knitting to all.

Taking time To Breathe

Hi all. Long time no blog. Hubby was in the hospital again last week. He had an infection in his blood. He went in Late Tuesday night--I guess it was really Early Wed. morning. But they have determined the bug and what will kill it so he is home and able to take oral antibioitics instead of IV ones. I am grateful for the small things. And the big things. His cardiac status is good for now. I had my 17 year old grandaughter the night he went in. Took her to a drama camp at Hiram College that she had been invited to attend. Dave and I got to go to her final performace--it was a vaudeville show. All the kids were great in it. She played Gracie Allen ya know with George Burns. Unless you are older like me you might not remember them. She, of course, was great.

Well, now I will tell you about the above bag. It is the Everlasting Bagstopper from Knitty. I made it for the Bag a Month group that I belong to on Ravelry. It is made from Sugar and Cream dark beige cotton. Very quick knit. Designed to use as a shopping bag, but makes a great beach bag. Happy Knitting!!

Yes there really was some knitting--just not much time for blogging. Hubby is doing better. Saw the nurse practitioner yesterday and he does seem to be in a normal heart rhythm with a much lower rate and is not holding water. He has not had the need to take the as needed lasix and that is good. They also decreased his amiodarone dose to 4oo mg. daily. That is the good news. He will see the doc in 4 to 6 weeks and we will go from there. Thanks again for all the healing thoughts and prayers, they were truly appreciated.

The scarf is the Irish Hiking Scarf made with Red Heart Soft Yarn in the color off white on size #9 needles. The third one I've made. The pattern can be found here. I made most of this while sitting with hubby in hospital.

Then there is the lacy round dishcloth. I had previously made a white one. I did this one at home while hubby was in the hospital. I made it from peaches and cream ombre--from a 16 oz. cone so there is plenty left. I have forgotten the colorway and the label is long lost. The pattern can be found here.

And last but not least. I worked on these socks in the evenings while he was in the hospital and finished them shortly after he came home. The are the 56 stitch 56 row sock from Chic Knits. I do modify the pattern somewhat. The pattern can be found here. They are made with Plymout Sockotta sock yarn The Italian Collection in color # 363.

So, you see we always make some use of down time--even though it isn't much. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to read some blogs and comment. I sure have missed doing that. This week was really busy. I hope to see some of my family next week. Happy knitting.

He's Home

Finally we arrived home about 3:30 pm today. He is on loads of different drugs. He is to take the lasix as needed only if he gains over 3-3 pounds in a day. He came home with his picc line (it is an IV) I guess this can stay in for 2 years, but since he will be cardioverted again in 3 to 4 weeks and he is such a tough stick we opted to keep this in until after the cardioversion. Then they will pull it. His daughter will change the dressing weekly--since I am not IV certified I don't even want to go there, but I will have her teach me to flush it as it will need flushed daily. He is on all kinds of different drugs, and off of some of his old ones. He is pretty tired today, so he is resting, but I am thrilled to finally have him home. Thx again for all your prayers.

Hi All, Dave had the cardiac cath today. There are no major blockages in the arteries. He will be treated with medicines. He should come home tomorrow. He is still in and out of a-fib with a kind of fast heartbeat--not as fast as it was a week and a half ago. Hopefully the meds will help. He will probably attempt to cardiovert one more time in about a week.

Hi all--Dave's clotting time was still too high today to do cardiac cath--so as it stands now they are planning to do it tomorrow. Don't know the time now. Thank you everyone for all your prayers, keep on praying.

Hi all--This is to let you all know that Dave is in good spirits and feeling much better. He is still flipping in and out of a-fib and his heart rate is still in the low hundreds--they want it a lot slower. They have stopped the blood thinner for now because doc wants to do a cardiac cath and wed or thurs and make sure this is not being caused by blockages. so--he will be in the hospital for a while longer. I would really rather they keep him to do this--it will be easier on him and myself. I came home early yesterday to write bills and do laundry. I came home early today because I am totally exhausted and I need to rest a little--then maybe I can iron. I will continue to keep you all posted.

Disappointment

Well--no homecoming today. He flipped back into a-fib--he has been going in and out of a-fib all day. They gave him 40 more mg. of IV lasix as the doc felt his lungs still sounded kind of wet. He will be getting that twice a day for now. Even though the IV amiodarone was dc'd he will continue to take that orally and they increased the dose on that. He is also back on toprol. Doc said he would go home on oral lasix for now when he does go home--that makes me feel better Thanks again for all your prayers.

With the IV lasix Dave's lungs and tissues cleared out nicely. The did do a chest xray Monday. They did one last night which the nurse practitioner ordered to be read wet--for some reason it was not therefore the lasix didn't get started till this morning. The cardioversion was set for 2 pm this afternoon--the doc did not get there until 2:30 and lo and behold he had converted to a normal rhythm on his own. He is feeling much better now and they moved him to room 530B. Lucky man keeps getting a window bed when he is in a semi private room. He has been in 4 different rooms since he went in on Monday. 2 of them were private rooms. He will probably be sent home tomorrow. He will continue to take the amiodirone orally -- is now on aldactone, a diuretic--and zestril for his blood pressure. Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers.

Dave went in the hospital on Monday and they started him on a drug called amiodarone. They attempted to cardiovert him Tues afternoon--but it was unsuccessful. He was taking the drug orally--so since Tuesday he has received the drug orally and by IV. He had a good day Wed. but a not so good day Thurs. They will attempt to cardiovert him again tomorrow--Friday. Please pray that all goes well. Not blogging much cuz I haven't really been here. Thx so much.

Father's Day Car Show

Hubby is off to Stan Hywett Hall in Akron, Oh. to the annual Father's Day Car show to show off this beauty. This is the first year I haven't gone with him in a long time. I just can't do the sun or the walking anymore. Aging isn't what it's cracked up to be, but it sure beats the alternative. Please keep him in your thoughts. I really didn't want him to go. This Atrial fibrillation is kicking his butt. I finally talked him into cancelling our July vacation which was 2 back to back car conventions. I really want to see him stabalized before we go wondering 300 to 400 miles from home. And d/t the fact that he did finally cancel it, I know he isn't feeling too great. Men can be so stubborn. We will be calling his Doc tomorrow. Mind you, I am not whining--this is just a fact of life, and thank goodness I have learned to live with life as it comes--the good and the bad. I hope all the Dad's out there had a great Father's Day and happy knitting to all.
